Build the full study budget
Separate tuition, everyday spending and the costs of moving abroad. Use the institution’s current fee information and city-specific accommodation quotes. A low tuition figure does not mean the whole route is affordable.
| Category | What to include | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition and institution charges | Tuition, deposits, course materials and application charges. | Institution’s current fee schedule and offer. |
| GGA support | The agreed consultancy or preparation tasks. | Scope and fees discussed with GGA. |
| Exams and documents | Language tests, translations and certification where required. | Official test provider and document service. |
| Monthly living costs | Rent, food, transport, communications and personal spending. | Accommodation quotes and realistic local costs. |
| Arrival costs | Travel, temporary housing, deposits and essential setup. | Relevant provider and accommodation terms. |
| Insurance and administrative costs | Charges that apply to your circumstances. | Institution or relevant official authority. |
| Contingency | An amount you choose for unexpected costs. | Your own budget and risk tolerance. |
Use a simple worksheet
Record costs in the destination currency and note when each amount must be paid.
| Budget line | Your confirmed figure |
|---|---|
| Monthly living subtotal | Rent + food + transport + other monthly costs. |
| Living costs for your stay | Monthly subtotal × the number of months you will fund. |
| One-off costs | Travel + setup + documents + examinations + other applicable charges. |
| Study total | Tuition + living costs + one-off costs + agreed support fees + contingency. |
| Confirmed resources | Your available funds + funding already formally confirmed. |
| Funding gap | Study total − confirmed resources. |
Plan the timing of payments
An annual total can hide cash-flow pressure. List deposits, tuition instalments, housing payments and other deadlines in date order. Check whether any amounts are refundable and under which conditions before paying.
Keep uncertain funding separate
Track a scholarship application separately from funding that has already been awarded. Compare a funded plan with a plan without that award. If using another currency, record the exchange rate date and consider how a change would affect affordability.
Questions before commitment
- Which charges are included in tuition or GGA’s agreed support?
- What additional payments may be required and by whom?
- What are the payment, cancellation and refund terms?
- Does your plan remain affordable without an unconfirmed scholarship?
